EU Ministers adopt agchem statistics rules
EU Ministers have adopted a new EU regulation to harmonise EU data collection systems for pesticide statistics, thereby clearing the way for the new rules to come into force by the end of the year. The new legislation was signed off by EU Foreign Affairs Ministers after the text was agreed by representatives of Ministers and the European Parliament earlier in November ( Agrow No 580, p 17). The new system will initially be used for agrochemicals, and may be extended to non-crop pesticides in the future. EU member states will collect information on the annual amounts of active ingredients sold and issue reports each year. Data will also be gathered on the annual amounts of ais used on specific crops, but usage reports will be issued every five years.
