UN FAO to support Libyan crop protection

Libya has struck a deal with the UN FAO to gain technical assistance on crop protection and other agricultural measures to ensure food security. The FAO will provide support for 18 projects covering among others: pesticide management and the protection of natural resources; IPM techniques; phytosanitary measures; sustainable water resource management; biotechnology; and the assessment of fish stocks and coastal area pollution. Libya has invested $71 million in the programme, which will start in 2010 and end in 2014.
