US approves just one new ai in 2008/09
The US EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) has confirmed that BASF’s herbicide, saflufenacil, was the only new agrochemical active ingredient approved for use in fiscal 2009. The approval was granted in September, the last month of the EPA’s fiscal year. BASF has trade-marked the ai as Kixor, but plans to launch it under several brand names on a range of crops ( Agrow No 576, p 23). All 26 uses were classified as reduced-risk by the OPP.
