Spanish seize illegal agchems
A Spanish offensive against pesticide trafficking has seized 3,000 litres of unregistered and unidentified agrochemicals for the control of tomato leaf miners ( Tuta absoluta), the Spanish agrochemical industry association, the Aepla, reports. Separate Spanish news reports identified the pesticides as contraband versions of the insecticides, abamectin and emamectin benzoate. The country’s environmental protection law agency, the Seprona, also detained six people after an operation that started in the summer. The Aepla has applauded its efforts. The association says it will provide “all necessary means” at its disposal to the authorities, from the Seprona to the national police.
