Brazil sets rules on agchem testing
Brazil has approved new guidelines and rules on the testing of pesticides. The Ministry of Agriculture has issued regulation IN No 36 requiring accreditation of public and private bodies that issue reports on efficacy and agronomic practice, phytotoxicity and pesticide residues in support of product registration applications. Reports from non-accredited bodies will only be accepted until February 27th 2010. Fumigants for stored grain and ant baits are to be covered by the rules within a year of the issue of the November 27th issued regulation on November 27th. Failure to comply will lead to suspension of registrations. For flowers and ornamentals, reports may be made on representative crops with recommendations extended to others of the class.
