Stakeholders see IST as center of chemical security debate

Environmentalists and other non-governmental organizations have long praised New Jersey for being the first — and only — state to aggressively regulate chemical security, frequently urging federal lawmakers to follow suit and adopt similar rules at the national level. But with Congress and the incoming Obama administration set to revisit the federal rules in 2009, some advocates of tighter regulations are expressing frustration with New Jersey, arguing that Gov. John Corzine (D) has not lived up to past promises to require that companies use safer materials and processes.
