Egypt's agriculture minister hasn't issued a decision to ban imports of genetically engineered crops, the state news agency MENA said last week, denying an earlier report . The agency quoted an unnamed agriculture ministry official as calling "not correct" earlier reports that Amin Abaza had ordered that all imports bear a certificate showing they are free of GE materials. The original report was published by MENA on Wednesday and picked up by other media. Egypt is one of the world's largest wheat importers and also imports other products, such as corn, edible oils and sugar.
