US GM maize area up
The US genetically modified maize area has risen by over 5% to 74 million acres (29.9 million ha) and accounts for 85% of the entire 2009 maize area, according to the USDA’s June survey. That compares to the 80% share that GM varieties had of last year’s crop. The entire maize area was up by 1.2% to 87 million acres. About 97% of maize had been by planted by the time of the survey.
