Denmark’s organic area to increase

Denmark’s organic farming area will increase by more than 10,000 ha in 2008, reports the country’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. This would bring a total area of 172,000 ha, accounting for 6.5% of Denmark’s cultivated area, under organic farming. The increase was 20,000 ha last year. The Danish government provides subsidies to farmers who meet the requisite conditions for changing to organic farming.
