DuPont's agricultural business ends year strongly
Strong regional demand and favourable pricing in Latin America helped DuPont's agrochemical sales increase "significantly" in the fourth quarter of 2007. Demand for insecticides was particularly strong in Latin America and Europe, the company points out. Volumes rose significantly in the Asia/Pacific region due to high demand for the rice herbicide, Londax (bensulfuron-methyl), in Japan and broad market growth across the region. Profit margins were boosted by favourable pricing and fixed cost productivity gains. Earnings grew "substantially" due to higher sales, restructuring benefits and product divestments.
