Amvac's fourth quarter held back by GM (genetically modified) maize

Significantly lower sales of its maize soil insecticides contributed to a 10.4% decline in revenues for American Vanguard (Amvac - Los Angeles, California) to $55.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2006. The company attributes the decline to the increased adoption of genetically modified insect-resistant maize in the US. Amvac had forecast the reduced fourth-quarter sales following a strong fourth quarter for its maize insecticides in 2005 (Agrow No 508, p 6).
