Record Canadian canola crop
Farmers in western Canada have planted a record 14.5 million acres (5.9 million ha) of canola this year, up by 17.2% on the previous year. The area falls short of the 14.7 million acres forecast in March (Agrow No 519, p 13), but exceeds the previous record of 14.2 million acres in 1994. Increases were seen in all three of the western prairie provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. The largest increase occurred in Saskatchewan, with a 19.6% expansion to 7.2 million acres.
