Mexico presents draft agchem US harmonisation rules
Mexican authorities have presented to US authoritiesdraft amendments covering joint regulations on pesticide use at an annual meeting of a bilateral working group, Mexican newspaper La Voz de la Frontera reports. Ministry of Agriculture draft bill Sag-Fito/SSa1-2-13 seeks to establish technical guidelines, authorisation procedures and revise pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs) on food produce. The Ministry also proposed taking part in a project to protect beneficial insects and pollinators with the US in order to facilitate marketing of pesticides, and reduce non-tariff barriers, while reducing risks to humans and the environment. Mexican authorities are working on a joint review with the US covering minor-crop pesticide use and harmonisation of MRLs.
