UK funding for spider venom pesticides

A project to develop a pesticide using naturally occurring peptides found in spider venom has received UK government funding of over £650,000 ($986,245). The pesticide is being developed by Swiss company Lonza subsidiary Arch UK Biocides, the UK University of Durham, the UK Food and Research Agency and UK-based contract research organisation I2LResearch. The funding comes from the £70 million ($106 million) Agri-Tech Catalyst started in 2013 by the UK Technology Strategy Board and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council to help commercialise UK agricultural innovation.
