Colombia presents biocontrol products regulations

The Colombian agrochemical authority, the ICA’s, general manager, Luis Humberto Martínez Lacouture, informed Parliament that the country had regulations on control of biological input products. They include biochemical substances, parasitoids, bioregulators and inoculants among others. The ICA claims that the regulation places Colombia as a pioneer in “viable alternatives (to chemical pesticides) for the development of a clean and environmentally friendly agriculture". He presented MPs with the work of the institute on the registration and control of pesticides. He told a parliamentary commission that, in co-ordination with the health and environmental authorities, the publication of Resolution 2915 of 2008 had been agreed, allowing the commencement of re-evaluations of category I (extremely toxic) and II (highly toxic) crop use pesticides.
