China adopts green crop protection

Chinese farmers used “green” crop protection measures on over 61 million ha of the country’s crops in 2014, reports the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA). The figure amounts to a fifth (20.7%) of the country’s total planted area, an increase of 7.2 percentage points when compared with 2006, the year that green crop protection was systematically introduced. The statistics cover main field crops such as maize and rice, as well as cash crops such as fruits, vegetables and tea.
