New Brazil Ag Minister to confront agchem approval delays
Brazil’s new Minister of Agriculture, Katia Abreu, has made the speeding up of the pesticide approval regime among her priorities for the four-year term of government. A bottleneck in Brazilian agriculture is caused by the slow pace of pesticide approvals, the Minister told the business newspaper, Valor Economico. It is a challenge that needs to be met, she reportedly said. Ms Abreu was appointed Agriculture Minister at the start of the year. From 2005, approvals of new active ingredients had fallen from 27 to three in 2010, and two in 2011.
