Colombia supplies free agchems to banana growers

Colombian authorities are distributing pesticides free of charge to banana and plantain growers to combat whiteflies (Aleurodicus floccissimus). The plant and animal health technology corporation, the ICA, is supplying growers with two insecticide formulations. They are: thiacloprid + deltamethrin, and imidacloprid + lambda-cyalothrin. The move forms part of emergency measures adopted under resolution 3495 of October 2014. The distribution of the free agrochemicals covers some affected 500 ha on 83 farms. The ICA has also issued recommendations for their use.
