EU agrees list of agchem candidates for substitution

A proposed list of 77 pesticides that are to be classified as candidates for substitution (CfS) has been agreed by the EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed. The classification means that, when approving products containing such active ingredients, EU member states would have to check whether safer alternatives were available. The European Commission stresses that the list will have no impact on existing approvals or on product applications that are in process. However, from August 1st 2015, new applications for authorisation, renewal or extension of use for products that contain CfS ais would have to go through the comparative assessment (CA) procedure to identify possible alternatives.
