Chile issues Lobesia emergency agchem conditions
The Chilean authorities have issued conditions for registrations of pesticides for use against European grapevine moths (Lobesia botrana). The Ministry of Agriculture’s agriculture and cattle service, the SAG, has declared a state of emergency allowing special use approvals on insecticides against the pest in areas within 500 m of its detection. For a pesticide to be authorised, it must show 85-90% efficacy in SAG protocol defined studies. Those active ingredients approved for the present 2014/15 season will be included in the list of approved ais for next season without the need of further efficacy studies. Those products will need evaluating during 2015/16 for validation of their listing for the 2016/17 season. Approved ais for the present season include: lambda-cyhalothrin, bifenthrin, methomyl and Bt insecticides. The SAG seeks eradication of the pest from five provinces in the medium term and containment in another three.
