China aims for zero growth in pesticide usage
China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has unveiled a new target of achieving “zero growth” in pesticide usage across the country by 2020. The plan was detailed in an MoA executive meeting last month, and will be achieved by a variety of measures, including promoting the use of low-toxicity replacement pesticides and more effective methods of pesticide application. The Ministry will also expand the scope for field testing of biopesticides, and increase monitoring of pesticide residues. China also plans to achieve zero growth in usage of crop fertilisers by 2020.
