Canada to OK FMC's Problad Plus
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed full registration for FMC's BLAD polypeptide-based biofungicide, Problad Plus, for the control of powdery mildews and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) on grapevines, strawberries, tomatoes, almonds, stone fruit and ornamentals. BLAD is a fragment of the naturally occurring seed storage protein, beta-conglutin, found in sweet lupins (Lupinus albus). FMC received US approval for the biofungicide as Fracture in 2013. FMC has an exclusive development and distribution deal for the product with the Portuguese company, Consumo em Verde. The PMRA decision is open to public comment until March 23rd.
