Dow names new herbicide
Dow AgroSciences has named its developmental herbicide, XDE-848, as Rinskor. An ISO name for the active ingredient has yet to be issued. The post-emergence arylpicolinate herbicide controls grasses, broadleaf weeds and sedges in rice and other crops. It will be an important resistance management tool for farmers as it provides an alternative mode of action, Dow points out. Research presented at the Weed Science Society of America this week indicates that the herbicide controls acetolactate synthase (ALS)-, acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase), propanil- and quinclorac-resistant grass and broadleaf weed species. Typical application rates are 5-50 g ai/ha. The first registrations of Rinskor are expected in 2017/18. Dow indicated last year that it had a post-emergence rice herbicide in development with peak annual sales projected to exceed $200 million.
