Brazil to amend env risk tests for agchems
The Brazilian agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa’s, land management arm has approved a project to identify risks from pesticide use on the national environment. It has been developed with the help of specialists to develop an enhanced evaluation of environmental risks, the ARA, from pesticides. The ARA is the responsibility of the environmental agency, the Ibama, and forms the environmental assessment stage for pesticide registration processes. Current employed methodologies have been developed by the US EPA, and do not take account of Brazil’s environmental conditions, the Embrapa says.
