Arcadia gains milestone payment from Mahyco

The US plant biotechnology company, Arcadia (Davis, California), has received a key milestone payment from Monsanto's Indian subsidiary, Mahyco (Jalna), for the development of genetically modified water use efficient (WUE) rice. Mahyco has demonstrated that Arcadia's WUE technology significantly increases plant growth under normal and water-stress conditions in multiple rice lines developed by the Monsanto subsidiary. The rice lines have shown double-digit increases in key plant performance and yield measures, Arcadia points out. Last year, the companies marked a significant milestone in the development of GM salt-tolerant rice.
