Bayer to drop diclofop-methyl in US
Bayer CropScience has requested the cancellation of all US registrations of the herbicide, diclofop-methyl, with effect from January 1st 2018. The EPA received the request from Bayer in October 2014 following the start of the registration review process for the herbicide in September. The Agency indicated that it had planned to conduct a comprehensive ecological risk assessment for all uses and revised dietary, residential and occupational risk assessments. It noted that preliminary risk assessments would have been completed in December 2018 and a final decision issued in 2020. Diclofop-methyl is approved for the control of wild oats (Avena fatua) and other grass weeds in wheat and barley. It is also registered for non-crop use, including on golf courses and roadsides. The cancellation request is open to public comment until March 13th.
