EFSA mulls design change for agchem residue survey

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has suggested increasing the number and types of food tested for pesticide residues, to better reflect consumption patterns. The recommendations are made following an analysis of the current design of the EU co-ordinated programme for monitoring pesticide residues in food, which is carried out on an annual basis. The latest monitoring results, from the 2012 survey, showed that 99.1% of food samples were within maximum residue limits.
