US federal court wades into dispute over California pesticide rules

A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard oral arguments last week in a lawsuit challenging the US EPA's approval of California regulations intended to reduce smog-forming emissions from pesticides within the farm-rich San Joaquin Valley. The suit could have serious impacts on California growers and pesticide interests. A ruling against the EPA could force California to adopt more stringent rules to limit pesticide emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
