Bayer extends PI soy marketing deal

Bayer CropScience has agreed an enhancement to its deal with UK plant health technology company Plant Impact (PI - Preston, Lancashire) to market seed technology in Brazil. The new agreement extends the initial period of the Brazil Veritas deal to ten years, and grants Bayer exclusive first rights of commercialisation over PI's current and future pipeline of products for soybeans throughout the Americas. The current and pipeline technologies are complements to crop protection products and include foliar crop sprays and industrial seed treatments that improve the soybean plant’s ability to withstand stress at various critical growth stages, PI says. Bayer will make payments of up to $9 million to PI, comprising an initial $3 million and up to $6 million in milestone payments. PI CEO John Brubaker welcomes the deal. “We are keen to align our product pipeline in soy with the full solution of Bayer CropScience, creating the potential for an integrated, season-long programme offering to growers of this important world crop.”
