EU requests more monitoring data on copper
The European Commission has confirmed the addition of a requirement for more monitoring data to the existing EU approval of the fungicides/bactericides, copper compounds. The monitoring should cover vulnerable areas where the contamination of soil and water, including sediment, by copper “is a concern or may become one”. The notifier must submit: a monitoring programme by July 31st 2015; interim results by December 31st 2016; and final results by December 31st 2017. The new requirement follows an evaluation of confirmatory data requested as part of the active ingredient’s original 2009 approval. The data were provided by the EU Copper Task Force. Copper compounds are already undergoing a separate assessment to renew the existing approval. The ai’s current approval expiry date was extended to 2018 to allow for slow EU renewal procedures.
