Soy rust worsens on Paraguayan crop

Paraguayan soybean crops are suffering high incidences of Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) and there are reports of rising resistance to fungicide applications, the country’s plant health inspection service, the Senave, says.  The government agency is to host a meeting with grower groups to assess the gravity of the situation, it adds. Paraguay employs a three-month fallow period in an attempt to avoid the disease remaining in host plants between seasons.
