EU votes for new elicitor ai approval
EU member states have voted in favour of a European Commission proposal to approve a new active ingredient that stimulates the plant’s natural defences. COS-OGA comprises chito-oligosaccharides, also known as chitosan, and oligo-galacturonic acid, which is derived from pectin. The application was submitted by Belgian company FytoFend (Isnes) in 2012. The ai is intended for use as a foliar spray to control powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) on cucurbits grown in glasshouses. The formulated product, FYTO11, is a soluble concentrate containing 12.5 g/litre of the complex.
