Syngenta debuts Velista in US
Syngenta is introducing the fungicide, Velista (DuPont/Mitsui Chemicals' penthiopyrad 50%), for the US turf market. It is the broadest spectrum succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) in that market and the only SDHI approved for use against anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp), the company points out. The fungicide also controls other key turf diseases such as brown patch (Rhizoctonia spp) and dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa). Syngenta had planned to introduce Velista in the US and Canada in 2014. The company acquired key assets for Velista from DuPont. The latter received US approval for penthiopyrad, as Fontelis, for use on a range of crops in 2012. DuPont licensed penthiopyrad from Mitsui Chemicals in 2007 for sale in Australia, the Americas and Europe.
