Finistere launches ag tech investment fund
The US agricultural technology and life sciences venture capital investor, Finistere Ventures (San Diego, California), has closed a $150 million agricultural technology fund, Finistere II. It is collaborating with Bayer CropScience, Canadian investment firm Avac (Calgary, Alberta) and other partners to identify and invest in world-class technologies focused on food productivity, sustainability and nutrition. The fund will primarily be focused on North American opportunities but it will also invest in "global centres of excellence". Finistere expects to collaborate with partners in Israel, Australia and New Zealand. The company began investing in the agricultural technology area in 2005. "The timing for a new fund coincides with the new wave of innovation needed to create the next Green Revolution in agriculture," says Finistere chairman Dr Jerry Caulder.
