Valent BioSciences acquires Mycorrhizal Applications

Sumitomo Chemical's US-based biopesticide and biorational products subsidiary, Valent BioSciences (Libertyville, Illinois), has acquired the US company, Mycorrhizal Applications (Grants Pass, Oregon). It is the world's largest producer of mycorrhizal fungal inoculum, which is used for improving water and nutrient uptake, Valent points out. The acquisition adds another strategic platform to Valent's global biorational business, providing additional tools for the "biorational window" platform being developed with Sumitomo. "The acquisition of Mycorrhizal Applications will allow us to accelerate the development of our rhizosphere strategy and immediately reinforce our strength in the biorational business," says Valent's executive vice-president and chief operating officer, Ted Melnik.
