Brazil cotton insecticide restrictions - clarification

Restrictions laid on applications of four insecticides in Brazil on cotton or winter crops within 300 m of cotton fields in the flowering stage earlier this year were extensions of previous rules, the national agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindiveg’s regulatory affairs director, Silvia de Toledo Fagnani, told Agrow. The issued restrictions allow for aerial applications on cotton which had been suspended and last for one year. The environmental agency, the Ibama, and the Ministry of Agriculture’s plant health office, the SDA, imposed the restrictions on the neonicotinoids, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and clothianidin, and the phenylpyrazole, fipronil, until the conclusion of the Ibama’s reassessment of the active ingredients.
