Agchem residue compliance remains over 97% in EU
The proportion of food samples complying with EU limits on pesticide residues was 97.4% in 2013, says the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The latest findings from its annual survey compare with 97.1% of samples analysed in 2012, and 97.5% in 2011. Some 54.6% of samples were free of detectable residues, while 1.5% “clearly exceeded” maximum residue limits (MRLs). Residues of more than one pesticide were found in 27.3% of samples. The results are based on 80,967 food samples from 27 EU member states, Iceland and Norway, tested for the presence of 685 pesticides.
