US EPA allows more comment on rootworm resistance
The US EPA has extended the public comment period on a proposed framework aimed at delaying the development of resistance of corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp) to Bt toxins in genetically modified insect-resistant maize crops. The proposals were issued in January following reports in recent years of corn rootworm resistance to the Cry3Bb1 and mCry3A toxins in parts of the Corn Belt. A number of stakeholders have requested additional time to review the proposal and respond, the EPA points out. The comment period has been extended by 30 days until April 15th.
