Vietnam OKs Syngenta’s GM maize stack
Syngenta has received Vietnamese approval for the commercial cultivation of its genetically modified stacked-trait Bt11x GA21 maize. It was approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and will be available for the 2015/16 season. The Bt11 trait confers resistance to lepidopteran pests such as the Asian corn borer (Ostrinia furnacalis), which the company says is the most damaging maize pest in ASEAN countries. Bt11 is also tolerant to glufosinate-ammonium herbicides. GA21 is tolerant to glyphosate herbicides.
