France to give extra aid to organic farming
Faced with “exceptional growth” in the area under organic farming in 2014, France’s Agriculture Ministry will release additional aid to farmers in the course of the summer season. The aid increase of €16 million ($17 million at the current rate) to €103 million ($109 million) in 2014 did not meet the requirements of the sector. The Ministry’s action came on the same day the national federation of organic farming, the Fnab, called for mobilisation of farmers to protest a cut of 25% in aid during 2014. The release of additional support to farmers would bring funds to the level originally planned for 2014, the Ministry says.
