Dow/CAAS rice research collaboration in China

Dow AgroSciences and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaborative research. The two organisations will negotiate a licence to Dow's Exzact technology platform and toolkit and collaboratively develop a proposed research programme with mutual development goals. Dow will offer to license Exzact to the CAAS through the Academy’s Institute of Crop Sciences. The Exzact gene insertion platform can enable CAAS scientists to capitalise on the significant investment in rice genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, cell biology and molecular breeding to accelerate the creation of new rice varieties with improved performance for China, the company says. Dow has developed the technology under an exclusive licensing and collaboration agreement with US genomics firm Sangamo BioSciences.
