EFSA reviews insect resistance to Bt maize

The latest EU monitoring data shows no sign of a significant and consistent decrease in susceptibility of target pests to the Bt Cry1Ab protein in genetically modified insect-resistant maize, says the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Its comments relate to Monsanto’s YieldGard Corn Borer (MON810) maize crops in Spain in the 2013 growing season. The data come from Monsanto’s annual post-market environmental monitoring report, which has to be submitted as part of the EU approval conditions for MON810.
