Canadian province issues neonic reduction rule

The Canadian province of Ontario's Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has proposed regulations aimed at reducing by 80% the area planted with maize and soybean seed treated with neonicotinoid insecticides by 2017. The move was put forward in a discussion document in November 2014 to address factors affecting pollinator health. Farmers' representatives objected to the plan and have presented an alternative strategy aimed at protecting pollinators.
