EU approval for new elicitor ai
Formal EU approval has been issued for a new active ingredient that stimulates a plant’s natural defences. COS-OGA comprises chito-oligosaccharides, also known as chitosan, and oligo-galacturonic acid, which is derived from pectin. The application was submitted by Belgian company FytoFend, for use to control powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) on cucurbits grown in greenhouses. The EU approval commences on April 22nd. COS-OGA has been authorised as a “low-risk” ai and is therefore eligible for a 15-year approval period, rather than the standard ten years. The decision to grant approval was cleared by the EU regulatory committee earlier this year.
