US state cites WHO in defence of GMO label law

Officials with the US state of Vermont are hoping that the UN WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer's (IARC) recent determination that the herbicide, glyphosate, can probably cause cancer in humans will help their effort to fend off the food industry’s challenge of the state’s genetically modified food labelling law. The Vermont law, which requires labelling of most foods that contain GM ingredients, is currently in limbo while a federal judge decides whether to invalidate the measure.
