EcoPesticides/USDA deal on biopesticide technology
The US biopesticide company, EcoPesticides International (Albuquerque, New Mexico), has signed a co-operative research and development agreement with the USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to further validate its micro-encapsulation technology. EcoPesticides has a global licence from the University of New Mexico for encapsulation technology aimed at protecting biopesticides from ultra-violet (UV) rays and heat. ARS entomologist Dr Stefan Jaronski is an authority on the biocontrol of rangeland grasshoppers and the principle investigator for the collaboration. "Our encapsulation technology shows great promise in shielding biopesticides from the harmful effects of UV and extending the window of effectiveness in fighting insect pests," says EcoPesticides president and CEO Les Stewart. "The opportunity to work with Dr Jaronski, who has conducted many grasshopper field trials using fungal strains, has the potential to accelerate development of our UV-shielding micro-encapsulation technology."
