Paraguay approves six GM maize lines
Paraguay has recently approved six genetically modified maize lines, regional newswire the Argentine biotechnology information council the Argenbio reports. The news agency does not name the maize products, which are variously glyphosate herbicide-tolerant, insect-resistant or express both characteristics. The Ministry of Agriculture has reportedly authorised the sale and use of the lines following a positive assessment of the biosafety commission, the Conbio. The approvals bring the country’s range of commercially authorised GM products to 20, including 14 for maize, and three each for cotton and soybeans, the Argenbio notes.
