Monsanto seeks US OK for nematicide
The US EPA has notified receipt of an application from Monsanto to register the nematicidal seed treatment, MON102133 SC (tioxazafen 45.9%), for use on maize, soybeans and cotton. The Agency has scheduled a registration decision for fiscal 2016. Presentations at scientific meetings indicate that tioxazafen belongs to the 3,5-disubstituted-1,2-4-oxidiazole class. The new class of nematicide chemistry has shown equal or better performance than commercial standards in greenhouse and field trials. It is reported to show excellent activity against soybean cyst, root knot and reniform nematodes in soybeans, lesion, root knot and needle nematodes in maize, and reniform and root knot nematodes in cotton.
