Calcium hydroxide fungicide gains EU approval
The European Commission has confirmed EU approval of calcium hydroxide as a “basic substance” under the EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009). The application for its use as a fungicide on pome fruit was submitted by the European Group of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. The EU authorisation commences on July 1st and runs for an unlimited period, compared with the standard ten years for most active ingredients. Basic substances are not predominantly used for agrochemical purposes, but are considered useful in plant protection. The EU regulatory committee gave its support to the approval earlier this year.
