UK farmers make emergency use application for neonic STs

The UK National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has submitted an emergency use application to UK authorities to allow farmers to use seed treatments in oilseed rape this autumn. The Union says that farmers across the country are continuing to suffer heavy losses through oilseed rape crop damage following EU restrictions on the availability of neonicotinoids. “Similar applications are being made elsewhere in the EU and, of course, neonicotinoids continue to be used by oilseed rape growers across the world,” says NFU vice-president Guy Smith. The Union demands that British farmers have access to the same crop production toolbox as their competitors abroad.
